Craig Terrill: Gridiron Bruiser, Guitar Picker, Lebanon Native

Most famous Indiana people are good at only one thing. People like Indiana Mr. Basketball Rick Mount are good at sports, while people like Dick Van Dyke excel only when they’re playing someone else. Lebanon, Indiana native Craig Terrill, however, has been blessed with the good fortune to be twice the celebrity. While Terrill’s day job is that of a defensive tackle for the National Football League’s Seattle Seahawks, by night Terrill descends on the nightclubs and bars of Seattle with his guitar and backing band in tow. He just released his first album, CT, and it sold over 4,000 copies on his band’s MySpace page. Craig Terrill’s musical roots stretch all the way back to his college days at Purdue University, but his football career extends farther than that.

Craig Terrill was born in Lebanon in 1980. Terrill terrorized offenses during his stint at Lebanon High School. He still holds the record for sacks in a season (with 27) and his high school career, and in his senior year he was named First Team All-State. His time at the Indiana high school led to a berth at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana. He performed admirably for the Purdue Boilermakers; he became a starter in 2000 and earned Academic All Big Ten team honors in that season. He never posted astounding numbers, but he was consistently good at his position, more of a team player than a play making superstar. He started all twelve games for the three seasons he spent on the Purdue squad and earned honorable mention for the All Big Ten team in 2002. By the time his Indiana university experience was over, Craig Terrill had placed ninth on the all time career sack list for Purdue.

Craig Terrill was drafted in the sixth round of the 2004 NFL Draft by the Seattle Seahawks. He’s been with the Seahawks for his entire NFL career, but, like his time at Purdue, he is mostly used as a backup and support player. He doesn’t start most games, but he usually ends up playing, either in special teams or with the defense, by the end. His numbers have been respectable and he doesn’t let much get by him. But just because he’s not a superstar of the NFL doesn’t mean Craig Terrill isn’t a famous Lebanon person. He’s a multifaceted Lebanon resident who has done well for his high school team, his college team, and his professional team. And, after all, not every famous person can have two claims to fame. Craig Terrill’s probably the only Lebanon celebrity who can claim excellence on the stage and on the field.
